PS3 prices are the highest among all prices of its competitors. The main competitors of PS3 are the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360. The Wii has the lowest prices - only 250$ in the USA and the Xbox are somewhere in the middle - about $350-400. PS3 prices start from $499 in the US (and these are PS3 prices on the standard model, on the premium model PS3 prices start from $599 per unit). And, of course, there are special PS3 prices for units in Europe - standard version is about 500 euro and premium versions begin from 600 euro per unit. If we are talking about the Western Europe and Russian Federation, then we can say that here PS3 prices will be like in Europe or higher, because it's some kind of a new product and game consoles are not very spread among the potential customers. Also, here for people it is weird to pay money for video games and for playing online.

PS3 prices in fact are higher, because there are many additional accessories for PS3. The basic equipment of the PS3 is only a game console and a special Dual Shock 3 wireless joystick. If you want to buy two joysticks this will make PS3 prices higher by about $20-60. Also if you want a special HDMI-cable then PS3 prices will be higher on about $100. There are some extra accessories which make PS3 prices much higher.

The main reason why PS3 prices are the highest among its competitors is because of the Blu-ray drive built in. And we can say that PS3 prices are not higher then a normal Blu-ray drive for personal computers. And, of course, it's the graphics - PS3 is the only game console with this kind of graphics. So if you are going to buy a Blu-ray drive - you can choose a PS3.
